If you’ve ever dreamed of stepping into the enchanting worlds of Studio Ghibli, then this exhibition is your chance. We recently visited The World of Studio Ghibli exhibition at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore, and it was an extraordinary experience.

Walking through the immersive exhibits, we felt like we were living in the films we’ve adored for years. Here’s a peek into what you can expect as you embark on this magical journey.

Howl’s Moving Castle – The Adventure Begins

The moment you step into the exhibition, you’re transported into the world of Howl’s Moving Castle. This towering, steampunk castle with its moving parts is an engineering marvel, just like in the film. The level of detail is astounding, and it sets the tone for the magical experience that follows. You feel like Sophie, entering Howl’s world for the first time. We couldn’t resist snapping photos from every angle, and neither could the crowd around us!
Castle in the Sky – Laputa Awaits

From Howl’s Moving Castle, the journey takes you up into the clouds with Castle in the Sky. This exhibit showcases the majestic floating city of Laputa. The intricately crafted models and ethereal scenery capture the wonder and mystery of the film.

Walking through, we were completely immersed in the steampunk fantasy and couldn’t help but marvel at the artistry on display.
My Neighbor Totoro – A Whimsical Wonderland

Next, you step into the tranquil and heartwarming world of My Neighbor Totoro. This section brings Totoro’s forest to life, complete with the lush greenery and a massive Totoro figure standing ready for photos. Of course, the famous Catbus makes an appearance too, much to the delight of everyone there. This exhibit brought out our inner child, as we soaked in the whimsy and magic that has made Totoro a beloved icon worldwide.
Kiki’s Delivery Service – Ready for Takeoff

Flying next is the charming world of Kiki’s Delivery Service. In this exhibit, you can pose with Kiki’s broom, ready to take off on an adventure.

The backdrop is a vibrant recreation of Kiki’s coastal town, bustling with life. This was one of the most fun and interactive sections, and it perfectly captured the spirit of adventure that Kiki embodies. We felt like we were part of Kiki’s world, flying above the rooftops!
Spirited Away – Enter the Bathhouse

The journey concludes with one of the most iconic films, Spirited Away. You’ll walk into a grand recreation of the mysterious bathhouse, with all its rich details and vibrant colours.

And, of course, No-Face is there, waiting for you inside the iconic train carriage. The atmosphere here was surreal and captivating, just like in the film. This final exhibit felt like the perfect way to end our magical journey through the world of Studio Ghibli.
Behind-the-Scenes Magic and Exclusive Art

The exhibition also offers a deeper dive into the creative process behind these masterpieces. Visitors can enjoy never-before-seen concept art, original storyboards, and production materials that give insight into the genius of Hayao Miyazaki and his team. Seeing the creative evolution of beloved characters like Totoro, Kiki, and Chihiro was fascinating, and it reminded us of the artistry that goes into every frame of these films.
