Exciting news for wildlife enthusiasts! Singapore is set to unveil its fifth zoological park, Rainforest Wild Asia, in March 2025. This immersive park will transport visitors into the heart of Southeast Asia's rainforests, offering unique encounters with a diverse array of animal species.
A Journey Through Diverse Habitats
Rainforest Wild Asia spans 13 hectares and features 10 distinct zones, each meticulously designed to replicate various rainforest environments. Visitors can choose their adventure level, from leisurely strolls on elevated walkwaysâaccessible to families with strollers and wheelchair usersâto more rugged forest trails scattered with fallen logs, boulders, streams, and bridges. For thrill-seekers, the park offers harnessed experiences and guided tours, including high-element traverses across rock faces, freefall jumps, and challenging caving adventures.
Meet the Inhabitants
Home to 29 iconic animal species, Rainforest Wild Asia introduces several new-to-Singapore residents:
Françoisâ Langur: This threatened primate species will make its debut in Singapore, offering visitors a rare glimpse into its natural behavior.
Malayan Tiger: Witness the majesty of these big cats in expansive habitats designed to encourage natural behaviors.
Malayan Sun Bear: Observe the smallest bear species in the world as they explore their enriched environments.
Philippine Spotted Deer: Another newcomer to Singapore, this species adds to the park's diverse fauna.
Innovative Habitat Design
The park introduces flexible habitats, allowing different animals, such as red dholes and babirusas, to be featured at various times of the day. This dynamic approach provides stimulating environments for the animals and varied experiences for visitors.
A Commitment to Conservation
In recreating the rainforest setting, close to 7,000 Southeast Asian trees and shrubs have been planted to supplement the existing protected patches of rainforest. This effort underscores the park's dedication to conservation and environmental education.
Looking Ahead: Rainforest Wild Africa
Following the opening of Rainforest Wild Asia, the next phase will introduce Rainforest Wild Africa, inspired by the diverse landscapes of the Afro-Tropical region and Madagascar. This expansion promises to further enrich the wildlife experiences available at Mandai Wildlife Reserve.
