What sets Um Yong Baek apart is its thoughtfully curated menu that transforms depending on the time of day. This dual-concept approach allows diners to experience two sides of Korean culinary traditions.

  • Lunch (11:00 AM - 3:30 PM): Lunch revolves around Pork & Rice Soup (Daejigukbab), a hearty and soul-warming dish that’s a staple in Korea’s southern regions.

  • Dinner (5:30 PM - 10:00 PM): By night, the restaurant shifts gears to serve sizzling Korean BBQ, perfect for sharing with friends and family.

Our Experience: A Flavourful Affair

We visited Um Yong Baek for lunch, eager to sample their signature offerings, and the experience exceeded our expectations.

UYB Thick Daejigukbab - SGD $21

UYB Thick Daejigukbab: This pork and rice soup is a testament to simplicity done right. The broth, simmered for hours, bursts with umami-rich flavours. It’s hearty without being overly heavy, making it a comforting pick for any time of the year.

Hangjung Sooyuk & Ganjang Guksu - SGD $25

Hangjung Sooyuk & Ganjang Guksu: The perfectly boiled pork slices were tender and flavourful, while the soy-sauce-based noodles added a subtle yet delightful contrast. Each bite felt like a celebration of Korean culinary traditions.

Local Milyang Daejigukbab - SGD $21

Local Milyang Daejigukbab: This dish, inspired by the flavours of Milyang, a city in Korea’s Gyeongsangnam-do province, was a standout. The broth, lighter and clearer than the UYB Thick version, offered a refined taste that was equally satisfying. The inclusion of pork innards elevated the dish with an added layer of complexity, making it a must-try for adventurous diners seeking authentic Korean flavours.

Refillable side dishes

The dishes showcased Um Yong Baek’s dedication to quality and tradition, ensuring a dining experience that felt both familiar and unique.
